When it comes to bite correction, there are two possible choices that guarantee excellent results: traditional braces and aligners. Either method will give you a wonderful smile. But each has its slight differences.
Firstly, the conventional braces system is a non-removable construction consisting of brackets and locks on the 6th and 7th teeth among other elements.
This is the first difference from aligners, which are a thin and comfortable plate made of hard polymer, worn up to 22 hours a day and removed during meals.
The second important point to mention is the preparation process for bite correction.
Braces are installed quite quickly, but the dentist works step by step, planning the next phase of the braces system at each appointment. Whereas aligners allow for creating a three-dimensional model of the dental system and a 3D model of the final result with the movement of all teeth. This gives patients the opportunity to see both the process and their future result on a computer monitor or on their phone. Planning the 3D model takes up to two weeks.
We could not fail to mention hygiene issues in this article.
There are no hygiene difficulties with aligners, as they are caps that are removed before meals. Aligners do not require additional oral hygiene tools such as irrigators, interdental brushes, or single-tuft brushes, which are necessary for caring for teeth with braces. At the same time, when using a braces system, it is necessary to visit the dentist every few months for professional teeth cleaning, to rinse or clean the oral cavity after each meal, and to replace toothbrushes more frequently.
Also, it is important to mention food intake during the use of braces and aligners.
The braces system implies some food restrictions. Often people experience discomfort when eating hard food, nuts, apples, meat, etc. The design of the braces, which are attached to the teeth, means that food can get caught and remain on them. There are special brushes and irrigators to help remove food remnants. Of course, this must be monitored to avoid the development of cavities.
In turn, aligners are a removable system, thanks to which no special hygiene accessories are needed. During meals, the aligners are easily removed, they are easy to wash and, if necessary, store in a special box.
It should be noted that aligners are not suitable for everyone, whereas the braces system is a way to correct the bite for any case of complexity.
Aligners are intended for mild to moderate corrections.
And last but not least, a decisive factor — price.
The cost of traditional braces is, of course, lower than that of aligners. But in the modern world, there is a wide choice of braces systems, the more expensive of which are comparable in price to aligners (such as sapphire braces, Daemon, etc.).
Also, much depends on the specific case 🙂
In conclusion, it is worth noting that both methods perform well in correcting bites and are widely used around the world.
The braces system is a technology proven over decades, having given millions of people around the world a reason to smile. Year after year, braces are becoming more modern and convenient.
Aligners are a modern method that has already proven itself in many countries around the world. The first Invisalign aligners were launched in 1998 and have since gained widespread popularity thanks to a new and aesthetic approach to bite correction.
At the Dent VIP clinic, the first American Invisalign system was installed six years ago and since then the demand for it has only increased, and we, in turn, are pleased with our happy patients.
